The deacons provide support to ministries at Seed Of Abraham by attending to practical matters and freeing elders and congregation members to serve in prayer, teaching, singing, and leadership. Deacon duties include building maintenance, delivering benevolence gifts, and dealing with finances. The service of the deacons protects the unity of the church.
The character of deacons must meet standards intended to protect the reputation of the local church. Each deacon must display characteristics described in 1 Timothy 3:8-13:
“Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
Deacon Freddie Jones has performed the office of deacon at the Seed of Abraham Pentecostal Church (SOA) since 1992. He accepted the head deacon position in 2019.
